Thousands Still Without Power Across N.B.

Thousands of homes and businesses remain without power after high winds moved through the province Wednesday.

NB Power reported more than 9,300 customers without electricity as of 10 p.m. Wednesday.

That is down from more than 22,000 homes and businesses earlier in the day.

Around 2,000 of those customers are in the Kennebcasis Valley Fundy district while nearly 300 are in Kings/Queens.

The utility is also reporting nearly 800 customers without electricity in Central York Sunbury and just over 300 in Charlotte Southwest.

Power outages in Saint Andrews led to the early closure of Vincent Massey Elementary School and Sir James Dunn Academy.

Estimated restoration times on NB Power’s website suggest it could be late Thursday before some customers have their power restored.

Environment Canada reported a wind gust of 85 kilometres per hour at the Saint John Airport and 78 kilometres per hour at the Fredericton International Airport.
