Fewer COVID-19 Cases In NB But Public Health Says “We Can’t Relax”

New Brunswick has two new confirmed cases of COVID-19 and both are from the Moncton region.

The province now has a total of 103 cases.

Of those, 59 are travel-related, 33 are close contacts of confirmed cases, six cases are the result of community transmission and five cases remain under investigation.

Nine people were hospitalized and two have since been discharged.

Three of the seven patients remaining in hospital are in the intensive care unit.

To date, 30 people have recovered.

The new cases are:

  • An individual aged 20-29 in Zone 1 (Moncton region)
  • An individual aged 40-49 in Zone 1 (Moncton region)

Chief medical officer of health Dr. Jennifer Russell says we seem to be faring better than other regions with a lower number of cases.

“Our hospital admissions have been relatively few, the incident of community transmissions appears to be relatively rare – which is exactly why we cannot relax.”

Dr. Russell says we can’t lose our vigilance and that means avoiding family get-togethers or mass gatherings of any kind.

She adds staying home will save lives.
