Rothesay To Host Canadian Golf Championship

More than 150 of Canada’s top golfers will be coming to the Saint John region in August.

Riverside Country Club in Rothesay will host the 2020 Canadian Mid-Amateur Golf Championship.

The championship, which is for golfers aged 25 and over, is one of the most sought-after golf titles in Canada.

The winner will earn an exemption into next year’s RBC Canadian Open.

Originally known as the RCGA Pre-Seniors Championship, it was renamed the Mid-Amateur in 1989.

“Sports tourism plays a key role in growing the local tourism industry,” said Victoria Clarke, executive director of Discover Saint John, in a news release.

“Hosting large sporting events is a true economic generator for our region and we are excited to roll out the red carpet for the Canadian Mid-Amateur Golf Championship.”

The five-day event is expected to generate an estimated $250,000 in economic impact.

The 2020 Canadian Mid-Amateur Golf Championship will take place from Aug. 17 to 21.
