All public schools in New Brunswick are closed Friday as the province braces for a mixed bag of weather.
That includes schools in the Anglophone South and Francophone South school districts.
A freezing rain warning is in effect for parts of southern New Brunswick, including St. Stephen, Saint John, the Kennebecasis Valley, Sussex and Moncton.
Environment Canada is calling for between 10 and 15 millimetres of freezing rain by Friday night.
“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous,” said the national weather agency.
The freezing rain will change to rain Friday evening, then to snow near midnight. About five to 10 centimetres is expected before it ends by Saturday morning.
Snowfall and winter storm warnings have been issued for central and northern New Brunswick. Central regions can expect 20 to 30 centimetres of snow, while up to 45 centimetres could fall in some northern communities.
Police forces across southern New Brunswick are asking drivers to slow down and give themselves some extra time due to the road conditions.
New Brunswick 511 says major highways in the Saint John region are partly snow-covered with icy and slushy patches.
Several flights have been cancelled at the Saint John and Fredericton airports.
Saint John Transit says buses are operating but there may be delays or detours due to road conditions.
