Dangerous driving leads to 2 arrests

A vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Route 1 has led to two arrests.

Saint John police said it happened in the east end of the city last Thursday.

Police said they also received a call stating the passenger waving a machete.

The 24-year-old driver and 26-year-old passenger were arrested in a parking lot near McAllister Drive and Westmorland Road.

Police searched the vehicle and seized a machete.

One man was arrested for an outstanding committal warrant, dangerous driving and impaired driving.

The other man was picked up for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of probation.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses, anyone who has dashcam or video footage of the incident, or anyone with information to contact the Saint John Police Force at 506-648-3333 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
