1: Although it’s rare, the Passamaquoddy Bay does occasionally freeze over – including in the winter of 1922 when men were able to cross from Deer Island to St. Andrews over the ice!

2: Pennfield was named by Quaker Loyalist settlers after William Penn, an early Quaker leader and founder of Pennsylvania.

3: With a length of 129km, the Magaguadavic River is the 6th longest river in our province.

4: Did you know that Beaver Harbour was the very first settlement in British North America to forbid slavery?

5: There’s an old eastern Pine Tree within St. George Gorge that is believed to be one of the oldest living trees in New Brunswick.

6: At height of 194 meters (637 feet) above sea level, the peak of Chamcook Mountain shows evidence of scoring by glaciers!

7: Did you know that Grand Manan Island, although first settled way back in 1784, had been charted on maps as far back as 1558?!

10: Just outside of St. Andrews, you’ll find Ghost Road; a name not chosen by accident. Legend has it the road was home to the tragic culmination of a love triangle. As the sordid tale goes, two men who had hitchhiked to the area looking for work both fell in love with the same woman. Upon discovery of his rivals secret meeting place with their shared romantic interest: a large rock along the now-named Ghost Road, one man ambushed and killed the other.
